Frequently asked

EU AI Act, visible AI label, verstag.

What does the EU AI Act require for AI-generated images?
Article 50 of the AI Act (EU 2024/1689) requires artificially generated or manipulated image, audio and video content to be marked transparently as AI-generated — machine-readable and, for published content, recognisable by people as well.
When does the marking obligation start?
The transparency obligations in Article 50 apply from 2 August 2026. This is not legal advice.
What are Content Credentials?
Content Credentials are the machine-readable provenance details inside the file — signed to the open C2PA standard. They record how an asset was created and edited, and they can be checked tamper-evidently. What a person sees instead is the visible AI label in the picture.
Is the visible AI label enough?
For people the visible AI label is what counts — it is there in the picture, and it survives everywhere metadata is stripped on upload. Content Credentials add the machine-readable layer that automated checking systems evaluate. verstag applies both in one step. Which obligations apply to you depends on your role and on the individual case; this is not legal advice.
What does verstag do?
verstag verifies the provenance record a file carries, marks AI assets with a visible AI label and signed Content Credentials, and records every output in a complete audit trail — automatically.
Do I have to regenerate my images?
No. Your image stays exactly as it is — verstag does not regenerate anything. The visible AI label is burnt into a COPY; your original is untouched and stays downloadable at any time.
