The six words

Six words. Without them the first verification result is unreadable. They are not the whole glossary, but the words everything else builds on.

The signed-in product speaks German, so its wording is quoted in German below, with the English rendering in italics.

Visible AI label

The visible marking, burnt into a copy of the picture so that people can recognise it — for video, into the frames. It is what somebody looking at the file sees.

“Label” on its own means something else: that is also the name of the template the artwork comes from.

Content Credentials

Content Credentials are the machine-readable provenance details inside the file — signed to the open C2PA standard.

The term stays English in every language. Adobe, LinkedIn and TikTok use the same one.

The visible AI label and the Content Credentials are two layers, not two names for the same thing. The label is the visible mark in the picture; the Content Credentials are the invisible record inside the file. Both are needed: a label on its own is often gone once the file has been processed further; a record on its own is seen by nobody.

C2PA

The open standard behind Content Credentials — Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity. Anyone hunting for “C2PA” in the product is usually looking for the Content Credentials.

Notice

The umbrella for anything verstag tells you about a finding. A notice always has a severity, and each severity has a consequence of its own. There are six: „Nicht möglich“ (Not possible), „Warnung“ (Warning), „Optimierung empfohlen“ (Better option available), „Manuelle Prüfung“ (Manual check), „Information“ (Information) and „Erfüllt“ (Passed).

“Information” is one of the six severities, not a synonym for the umbrella. With “manual check” the check reached no verdict, and verstag offers no recommendation there. The six severities and what follows from each are in The six notice severities.

Asset

The entry in the library, headed „Library“ in the sidebar: the uploaded original file with its metadata, its verification result and every version produced from it.

The original file itself is never altered. The marking is only ever applied to the derivatives.

Derivative

An output produced from the asset in a target format, signed, optionally with a visible label. Only derivatives carry a verstag signature and a verstag label. Whatever third-party signature an original arrived with is untouched by that.

A deleted derivative can be created again from the same specification. The new output is signed afresh as it is produced, so it carries a different signature at a different time, and the run spends one signing run from your plan like any other.
