Checking a file quickly
Verifying without taking the file into the library.
The quick check sits under „Prüfen“ (Verify), the first entry in the sidebar; the wordmark at the top left leads there too. One file, one result, no entry in the library, which the sidebar calls „Library“ — the route for somebody else’s file that needs an answer right now.
Anyone signed in and a member of a workspace — headed „Tenant“ in the user menu — may verify. No particular role is needed.
The signed-in product is in German, so its wording is quoted in German here, with the English rendering in italics.
How it is used
Drag the file onto the area headed „Datei hierher ziehen“ (Drag the file here), or pick it from the file dialog with „Datei auswählen“ (Choose file). Above it on the right, the button „Was wird hier geprüft?“ (What is checked here?) opens a short explanation.
Two stages then run: „Upload“ and „Prüfung“ (Verification). The result appears below the drop area once the second one is through.
Drop a second file while a check is running and the later one wins. The first result then never arrives.
What happens to your file
The file is uploaded. It is not checked in the browser. For the check a copy goes into storage in the EU and is evaluated automatically there — no member of staff looks at it. That copy is deleted at the latest twelve hours after the upload. The subtitle of the drop area says as much: „wird nur temporär zur Prüfung gespeichert“ (stored only temporarily, for the check).
The file itself is not altered by the check.
The file does not land in the library unless you explicitly choose that. The result is on the page and gone once the page is closed. To keep it, use „In Library speichern“ (Save to library) below the result. Only then is an asset created, and only then is the result recorded for good.
Formats and size
More formats can be verified than can be uploaded into the library: PNG, JPEG, WebP, TIFF, AVIF, HEIC, GIF, MP4 and MOV. WebP, TIFF, AVIF, HEIC and GIF are refused by the library upload and accepted by the quick check. They still get in through „In Library speichern“, and once there they are verify-only assets with no editor.
On this route the ceiling is 100 MB for every kind of file — video included.
„In deiner Library gefunden“ (Found in your library)
If the file’s checksum matches an asset or a signed export in your own workspace, a box under that heading appears above the details, naming the match and linking to it; for an export it also carries the format, the signing time and the certificate.
The comparison runs inside your own workspace only. Somebody else’s file never produces a match, and assets in the trash do not count. No match says nothing about the file — only that it did not come from your library.
What can go wrong
„Dateityp … wird nicht unterstützt“ (File type … is not supported). The message lists the acceptable formats. For HEIC files Chrome frequently reports no file type at all; the extension then decides, and an unknown extension means refusal.
„Datei ist größer als 100 MB.“ (File is larger than 100 MB.) On this route 100 MB is the ceiling for every kind of file. A very large video is refused only after the click.
„Die Prüfung ist fehlgeschlagen.“ (The check failed.) The message says no more than that; it never names a technical reason.
„Zeitüberschreitung bei der Prüfung.“ (The check timed out.) After about five minutes the page stops waiting.
„Die Prüfung konnte nicht abgeschlossen werden. Bitte erneut versuchen.“ (The check could not be completed. Please try again.) The run was interrupted — the network went, for instance.
Saving to the library is refused although the check had finished. Either the temporary copy has since been deleted — then the way on is to check the file again and save after that. Or there were too many attempts in quick succession, in which case it reads „Zu viele Versuche in kurzer Zeit. Bitte einen Moment warten und es erneut versuchen.“ (Too many attempts in a short time. Please wait a moment and try again.)
A card with figures appears instead of a note. Saving to the library takes up storage and is checked like an ordinary upload. If the workspace allowance is exhausted, the card names the used and the permitted figure — and the fact that the trash still occupies storage.
