Uploading files

The upload area sits above every view of the library, inside a folder and in „Unsortiert“ (Unfiled) as well. Every member of the workspace may upload; no particular role is needed.

The signed-in product speaks German, so its labels and messages are quoted in German below, with the English rendering in italics.

The two routes

Files. Drag them onto the area headed „Bilder oder Videos hierher ziehen“ (Drag images or videos here), or pick them from the file dialog with „Dateien auswählen“ (Choose files). Several at once is fine.

A whole folder. The second button, „Ordner auswählen“ (Choose folder), takes a whole folder rather than individual files.

Above the area, „Ablageort“ (Location) chooses where the files land. Without a choice that is „Unsortiert“. If you are already inside a folder, the location is locked to that folder.

The folder rule

Only files sitting directly in the chosen folder are uploaded. Subfolders are not descended into. A campaign folder consisting of 01_RAW/, 02_Selects/ and 03_Final/ therefore yields nothing at all.

After the selection, the area reports under „Aus dem Ordner übernommen“ (Taken from the folder) what it skipped, and names the subfolders.

At most 250 files per operation. Pick more and the limit applies — the rest can be selected afterwards:

Unsupported files — PSD, RAW, XMP, whatever else lives in a working folder — are counted and reported as one line. System files such as .DS_Store, Thumbs.db or desktop.ini disappear without a word.

The sorting out happens before the cap: a folder of 400 files of which 300 are PSDs yields 100 images.

What can be uploaded

PNG, JPEG, MP4 and MOV. What can be checked beyond that is set out under Formats.

Up to 100 MB per image, up to 1 GB per video.

Video additionally: up to 3 minutes, up to Full HD, no ProRes. These three conditions are checked before the upload and speak up before anything is transferred. If the browser cannot measure a file, it is transferred and refused when it is processed.

What happens after the upload

Every file passes three stages: „Upload“, „Registrierung“ (Registration) and „Verify“. Only then does the result appear on the tile.

For a single file the detailed card with its stage bar stays put. From two files on, the list collapses behind a summary that counts the finished and the failed.

The upload runs only in the open page. A reload or a closed tab ends it; it is not continued. The verification afterwards runs to completion even if you close the tab.

What can go wrong

„Dateityp … wird nicht unterstützt“ (File type … is not supported). The message lists the acceptable formats. If the browser reports no file type at all — for HEIC, Chrome regularly does — the extension decides, and an unknown extension means refusal.

„Datei ist größer als 100 MB.“ (File is larger than 100 MB.) or „Datei ist größer als 1 GB.“ (File is larger than 1 GB.) Which of the two appears depends on whether the file is a video.

„Das Video ist 4:12 lang. Verarbeitet werden bis zu 3:00 Minuten.“ (The video is 4:12 long. Up to 3:00 minutes are processed.) The message names the measured value and the limit.

„Das Video ist 3840 × 2160 Pixel groß. Verarbeitet wird bis Full HD (1920 × 1080).“ (The video is 3840 × 2160 pixels. Up to Full HD (1920 × 1080) is processed.) Portrait and landscape are treated alike — what is measured is the longer and the shorter edge, not width and height.

„ProRes wird nicht unterstützt. Bitte das Video als H.264 oder H.265 exportieren.“ (ProRes is not supported. Please export the video as H.264 or H.265.) A .mov extension says nothing about what is inside the container, so it is looked into before the upload.

A card with numbers appears instead of a progress line. The workspace is out of storage. The card names the amount used and the amount allowed — and that the trash still occupies storage.

The verification failed although the upload was fine. The list then carries a button that starts the check for that asset again. The file is not transferred a second time.
